WOLF: SUPPORT FOR SELECT COMMITTEE ON BENGHAZI GROWING
Wolf Said He Appreciates ‘Unwavering Support’ of Special Ops Community and Grassroots
Groups; Resolution to Create Select Committee Continues to Gain Support in Congress
Washington, D.C. (September 10, 2013) – Former Attorney General Michael Mukasey and other respected national security leaders today called on House Speaker John Boehner to create a House Select Committee on Benghazi in time for the one-year anniversary of the attack tomorrow.
The letter, released by the Center for Security Policy, comes on the heels of two new reports highlighting the failure to answer key questions and hold officials accountable for the Benghazi attacks. These new reports were issued by OPSEC, an advocacy group representing the military special operations community, andJudicial Watch, a nonpartisan government watchdog group.
Rep. Frank Wolf (R-VA), the author of H. Res. 36 to create the Select Committee, noted that four of his colleagues have signed onto the measure just this week, in addition to six who signed on during the August recess, bringing the total cosponsors to 172 – a super majority of the Republican majority.
In recognition for the work these and other groups have done over the last year, Wolf issued the following statement:
“I appreciate the unwavering support groups like OPSEC, Judicial Watch, the Center for Security Policy and other respected national security leaders who have advocated for a Select Committee to fully investigate what happened in Benghazi last September 11. The letter and reports released today demonstrate that national security leaders remain unsatisfied with current Congressional efforts to investigate Benghazi.”
“As we approach the one year anniversary tomorrow, I remain more convinced than ever that a Select Committee is the only way we will fully understand what happened that night and prevent similar attacks in the future. So far, 172 of my colleagues agree, and we continue to add cosponsors every day.
“Tomorrow, we should all take a moment to remember both the victims of the 9/11 attack in New York, at the Pentagon and in Pennsylvania who perished that dark day 12 years ago, as well as the four Americans killed last year in Benghazi – and the other wounded survivors who fought valiantly to protect American lives that night. If we never properly investigate this attack, we will never be able to honor the memory and service of the American heroes who served in Benghazi.”
