Trump has to try Senator Diane Feinstein’s strategy and skip a debate or two

I believe that Trump should try Senator Diane Feinstein’s strategy and skip a debate or two. In 2014 Feinstein decided to skip the debates altogether. Her GOP opponent had no name recognition, was far behind in the polls and had no money. For Feinstein debates were a losing proposition to give an unknown and poorly funded opponent exposure and publicity and to be attacked. Feinstein did not do the debates and won with a margin of 23%.
Today Trump is between 20%-10% ahead of the second place finisher, Carson and about 26% ahead of Fiorina. He has more money than his opponents, he pledged to spend up to a billion, while Fiorina has only 1 million. Without Trump prior debates in 2012 attracted only between 2-6 million. With Trump they attract 23-24 million. So Trump gives his opponents tremendous audience and exposure to attack him.
Trump should announce that he considers skipping the next 2 debates: October-NBC and November FOX Business Channel debates and will plan to campaign directly through rallies, town hall meetings and TV and radio interviews. Trump will announce at a later time if he will do the October and November debates, no debates for now.
Additionally, Trump should schedule a town-hall meeting or a rally to take place during those one or two debates. He should announce that he will take questions live from people who will watch this debate on the Internet or TV or will listen on the radio.
I believe that many networks will transmit his rally live and will prefer it over the debate, as it will give them an opportunity to take the audience away from the competitor, who is doing the debate. Trump should explain that prior debates were mostly food fights and that audience, interested in his candidacy, will gain more from this live event, which will be shown on a number of networks and will stream live on the net, than by watching the debates.
If this strategy works, and he stays in the lead with a large margin, then he should skip all of the debates. If this strategy does not work and he loses points after skipping one or two, he can always go back to the debates and do the remaining 5 or 6 debates.
This strategy will take away from the rest of the candidates about 18 million viewers, it will force networks to act more fairly to Trump, truthfully report the polls, which show Trump far ahead, and to give him more interviews in order to raise their sagging ratings. There are 7 more debates scheduled. Skipping one or two will not hurt Trump, but will hurt his opponents as considerably smaller number of people will watch their debates.

I like the idea but I think he should serve notice long before the next debate that if the hosts setting up and controlling the debates do not stop this determination to create a food fight between the candidates and instead allow each candidate to express their ideas on the really important issues like the death spiral debt crisis we are in, the economy, illegal immigration, the worst labor participation rate since the 1970’s, the bringing in of foreigners to replace our workers, the obvious discrimination against Christians and favoritism for Muslims, etc… and that he will, as you suggested, set up a competing political event to for the next debate where he will discuss these issues and answer all questions. One skip should prove the point. We don’t want to give the Republicans the opportunity to drop him from future debates, which they would love to have a reason do.
