Orly– sounds like an interesting courtroom experience- and I think it’s good to try to help people reform their ways but any ex-con needs to be under strict supervision b/c we know there’s a problem w/ recidivisim!! And Berg needs to explain how he got into the eligibility issue to begin with- I’d really like to know! I am glad COL Hollister has his own website now- and hopefully what you’ve done might make people behave more properly.
I tried to call Leavenworth prison yesterday but a SGT Williams was not helpful & said I had to call back on Tuesday- I was also told that the inmate has to have a list of those he expects to receive letters from- a “pre-approved list” in other words- and no packages or food, plants, etc.! He did say there had been a lot of calls- I’m glad to hear that. I wrote the camp commander (found his email online)- it didn’t bounce back- robert.caslan@us.army.mil and told him I hoped, given threatening letters & emailsl, etc. that Terry would be fully protected in his custody and that many people believe he was unfairly convicted. I don’t know what Terry’s thoughts are now but was told MAJ Kemkes was preparing his appeal- his wife had only JUST heard from him yesterday- obviously it took days to “in process” him at Leavenworth and he wasn’t able to make a phone call out for an inordinate amount of time. I do know also that MG Karl Horst & LTC Robert Manning have rec’d hundreds of phone calls & emails asking for clemency for Terry. Someone last night sent me a ltr to Horst from a 91 yr old vet- a COL, who was with Patton’s 3rd Army- very touching. I did tell Terry’s wife that he should have a civilian attorney too but am worried that communications are going to be challenging from Leavenworth. Greg, Terry’s brother, lives in Kansas- so I am also hoping he can get thru to Terry- see him in person.
Hope you’ve noticed Neil Abercrombie’s latest comments (LA Times)- it sure is OBVIOUS that this “fringe” eligibility movement has become so frightening to the Obama supporters that Maureen Dowd was skulking around at Terry’s trial and the new Aloha State Governor feels he has to speak out- of course saying nothing persuasive- just more propaganda.
Hope you have a wonderful holiday, Orly- it is nice to be in SC where people don’t shrink from saying “Merry Christmas” even at the Post Office!
