There goes the neighborhood.

I don’t doubt this story at all. It reminds me of when I am eating a hamburger and watching the news, and the newscaster comes on and says “your hamburger meat might be poisoned, details at 11”. It’s like the poison already got in and we don’t know if we will be a victim until the news is released.
