Please, look at the picture closely. Does it look like a black inflatable raft in the front of the picture?

Dear Orly,,

Someone on Free Republic guesses that Fuddy is actually in the picture attached, and below
(2nd from left edge of photo)

My guess is that Loretta Fuddy is the fourth person from the right in that photo, with her head sharply tilted toward our right (her left). Maybe she is trying to get water out of her ear.. Still alive, however.

The photo in question is here:

Counting 2 people in water from left, I think the person being referred to is in lifejacket and could be wearing the red/pink printed jacket of woman in left middle seat on plane.

first time I saw the black thing I thought, that looks like a black inflatable raft…

The black object is a ‘seat cushion’.

judging by the seams, it looks more like a seat cushion than a raft

Makani Kai pilot, 60-year-old Clyde Kawasaki, shares what it was like to survive the watery crash landing.

ALSO – you can see more of the ‘black”???? you can see a hand on it in this video – – I’m guessing that it is a ‘seat’ that the pilot got to Puentes (the person shooting the video) because the life preserver wasn’t enough to hold Puentes up. (Recall he had heavy ‘construction’ boots on – he’d been working on construction on Molokai) – – also I think that the woman, 2nd from the left, might have been Fuddy – with her Director beside her.

remember when fuddy wore a pink jacket to court!!
sure looks like a black raft to me, and what is the orange cone tip?

It does look like the corner of an inflatable raft. Possible emergency inflatable device from the plane? I’m not familiar with these things. What did catch my eye was what appeared to be a rope anchor line dropping down from the raft at about the 2:24 mark from the video. It’s hard to catch but the line seems to be straight as though connected to the bottom. Maybe a fresh pair of eyes can get a better look at it.

Could the black floating object be part of the seating system which is often suggested to use as a floating device when a plane makes a water landing…

    Dear Orly,

Enlarged photo of person wearing what looks like Fuddy’s pink paterned jacket, may have 2 lifejackets on, one orange, one yellow. Second person may be Yamamoto:

That looks like a seat-bottom from the plane. I could be wrong though.

Living on Long Island Sound I have been on the water hundreds of times boating. There is a black raft. Fuddy is not in it. She is floating with a life jacket on. If I were her I would be making my way towards the raft. It is a natural instinct to find something to hang on to. Even if you can’t swim you can paddle your arms with a jacket on. Her head is tilted she could already be dead at that point. It doesn’t look good. The two men to her left aren’t even looking at her. They should be gathering together. Was this pic photoshopped? If so why?

    January 11th, 2014 @ 8:18 am

The black “raft” could also be one of the seats.

  15. rog
    January 11th, 2014 @ 9:45 am

Hard to tell what is is for sure but it could be a seat cushion. I think the cushions are removable to be used as a flotation device. It has been a long time since I have been on an aircraft and certainly not one like that! RDC

    January 11th, 2014 @ 9:54 am

HI police should be doing background checks on all in that plane. Why were they on the plane, etc? Should be routine police work. Are they suing airline owner? Anybody heard anything about that?

  18. David
    January 11th, 2014 @ 12:08 pm

I believe it is a seat cushion. The pilot threw them out and gave the camera guy one. The pilot said when he got out he couldn’t find any as they had floated away. So he had given away his life jacket and had no seat cushion. It makes you wonder how he survived for over an hour.

  19. Ronald Polland
    January 11th, 2014 @ 12:42 pm

It’s a seat cushion, Orly. It just looks big because it’s so close to the lens. It’s the same cushion that Ferdinand Puentes got from Pilot Kawasaki

Go to 1:35 on this video to see it and hear him say it:

Now, notice that the lady looking at the camera doesn’t have a life-preserver on. Why would everyone else have on a ‘preserver, but she doesn’t?

Fuddys’ hair is an auburn color…it does appear that that female has a slight reddish color to her hair?!

    Ron,
can you make enlarged pictures, frame by frame of the video.
Do you believe that the woman staring into the camera, is Fuddy?
They said that there were 3 women?
    who was the third woman?

Yes, the pilot said he DID give out black seat
cushions to help some. Puentes said he got
one too. Sad day. Poor Loretta, RIP.

Believe that is a seat cushion, as other photos show camera guy holding a cushion.

Other interesting photo is the one taken underwater of the plane. Look beyond the propeller and there Is what looks like either a – shark, rock, or DIVER.

  28. Scott
    January 11th, 2014 @ 3:23 pm

Does anyone know how Fuddy’s body was recovered ?

Initial reports said she was found inside the fuselage.

Other report was that someone was holding her hand and she slipped under and drowned.

As seen in the photos, currents were taking passengers away from the plane. If Fuddy went under and died, how did they find the body ? It was dark soon after the landing, didn’t hear anything about an underwater rescue.

Not conceivable how she would go under send end up inside the fuselage, unless someone placed her there.

“and the priest said that the pilot swam ashore to get help” Is the pilot the 70 year old man that swam ashore? If not then two swam ashore, the coast guard said they rescued 3 and the fire dept claimed to have rescued 5. If two men swam ashore the count is off.

There seems to be a good deal of info on the Fuddy plane crash from ‘butterdezillion’ on freerepublic. She must know something, and conversed, as both of their hushmail accounts were deactivated within one hour of using Freepmail. Whatever she knows, she has been targeted since she found out and is certain ‘engine failure’ was not an accident. Also, the Police Chief is also the Coroner and Fuddy’s sister works directly with the police. Fuddy’s relatives seem to be all connected with Police and gov’t of HI.
Below is just a sample. Here is the link to read all the posts from butterdezillion….. https://www.freerepublic.com/tag/by:butterdezillion/index?tab=comments;brevity=full

******************************* “We saved eight because of what you did,” paramedic Scotty Schaefer, also Fuddy’s brother-in-law, solemnly reminded fellow emergency responders. “Loretta was family to us.”” >>>> That was at https://themolokaidispatch.com/kalaupapa-aircraft-wreckage-to-be-recovered-under-investigation/ So not only did Fuddy’s sister work directly with the acting coroner whose spokesman publicly stated (the day after the crash) that Fuddy’s body had been pulled from the wreckage…. but her brother-in-law is a paramedic with the Molokai fire and rescue crew who did the rescue. The Facebook page for Deliana Fuddy (has all her family stuff on it) says she was born on Molokai. Makes sense if her mom and sister lived there. This whole family is entrenched within the government of that island. Having 2 immediate family members be part of the crew that handles rescue and death counseling type stuff at the very place where her death occurred… is quite a coincidence. Another interesting note, although I don’t have the link for it right now. At the public memorial for Fuddy the most emotional speaker there was Richard Schuman, who was comforted by Fuddy’s family members.
