It will take a decision of the Supreme Court to reverse TX v Johnson and find flag burning illegal

As most Americans, I find flag burning to be disrespectful and reprehensible. However, in 1984 in a narrow 5/4 split decision in Texas v Johnson, the Supreme Court found the flag burning is allowed as an expression of free speech. Today, President Trump announced that he wants US flag burning to be punishable by law. While morally I agree with him that it is a reprehensible behavior, I believe that it will be tough for him to pass this law and sustain it against the SCOTUS challenge. SCOTUS will have to reverse it’s own 1984 decision in Texas v Johnson. SCOTUS extremely rarely reverses it’s own decisions, but it might happen.

Supreme Court found a way to force people to purchase health insurance. After reversing that stupid decision, maybe they will finally make flag burning a felony.
