Lou Dobbs Weighs Senate Run, as a Steppingstone
By DAVID M. HALBFINGER
The Lou Dobbs-for-Senate rumor had barely crested when the Lou
Dobbs-for-president rumor suddenly overtook it this week.

Mr. Dobbs, the former cable television anchor of the sonorous voice and
tough-talking immigration politics, parted ways with CNN on Nov. 11,
reportedly receiving an $8 million severance payment, and immediately
stirred questions about his plans.

His name was quickly floated as a potential challenger in 2012 to United
States Senator Robert Menendez
, the New Jersey Democrat, an ardent advocate
for immigrants’ rights and the chamber’s only Hispanic member. (Mr. Dobbs,
64, lives on a horse farm in rural Wantage, N.J.)

Then, on Monday, Mr. Dobbs said he had been urged to ponder a White House
run, and was indeed thinking about it. “Yes is the answer,” he told former
Senator Fred D. Thompson, who reached Mr. Dobbs at his vacation home in West
Palm Beach, Fla., and broadcast the interview on his radio program.

What’s unclear is whether Mr. Dobbs, who branded himself “Mr. Independent”
on CNN and talks prodigiously about his scorn for partisan politicians on a
radio program syndicated to more than 200 stations, would run as an
independent or seek the nomination of the Republican Party, which he spurned
in 2006, switching his registration to independent.

On Monday, Mr. Dobbs told Mr. Thompson he did not know which way he was
leaning on a presidential bid, but said he would “be talking some more with
some folks who want me to listen to them the next few weeks.”

Later, he told a Washington radio station, “For the first time, I’m actually
listening to some people about politics,” adding: “I think that being in the
public arena means you’ve got to be part of the solution.”

By Tuesday, Mr. Dobbs had apparently begun screening his calls: the phones
rang off the hook at his Florida home. A spokesman played down the idea of a
presidential race, but said Mr. Dobbs was taking seriously the idea of
running against Mr. Menendez.

“I think Lou is realistically saying, that’s a long way off, but if he did
run for office there’d have to be an intermediary step, such as the Menendez
seat,” said the spokesman, Robert L. Dilenschneider. He said Mr. Dobbs was
impressed by Republican gains in New Jersey in November and by President
Obama’s sinking popularity.

Mr. Dobbs’s two biggest assets in a Senate race would be name recognition
and his fortune. But it is less evident that he has a political base of
support, even in Sussex County, where he lives, and where Republicans
dominate every level of politics.

Richard Zeoli, a former Sussex Republican chairman who was just elected a
county freeholder, said he did not know whether Mr. Dobbs would energize
Republicans on a full range of issues or focus too much on a few subjects.
“Beyond immigration, there’s a lot of things that party leaders would want
to ask,” he said.

Virginia Littell, a former state Republican chairwoman, said Mr. Dobbs and
his wife, Debi, had been only “peripherally involved” in the community. “I
don’t even know anything about him politically,” she said. “I know he was a
Republican and now he’s an independent. So, say he comes back to be a
Republican. Is that really who he is?”

Asked whether Mr. Dobbs would run as an independent or a Republican, Mr.
Dilenschneider first ventured that it would be “highly unlikely” that he
would return to the party, given how much he had done to brand himself as an
independent. But after getting through to Mr. Dobbs, he reported back that
the former anchor would not rule out a Republican candidacy. “It’s just too
early to come to a conclusion on that,” he quoted Mr. Dobbs as saying.

Mr. Dobbs’s past outspokenness could also complicate his return to the
Republican fold. Last year, he ripped into Christopher J. Christie, then the
United States attorney in New Jersey, over immigration enforcement, calling
him “an utter embarrassment.” He also briefly considered a primary run
against Mr. Christie in the governor’s race.

And in late October, Mr. Christie’s aides took notice when Mr. Dobbs gave an
independent candidate, Christopher J. Daggett, air time on his CNN program
when it appeared that Mr. Daggett’s candidacy was damaging Mr. Christie.

Mr. Christie, now the state’s governor-elect, will

Feh. Dobbs is caving in and selling out already!

Lou Dobbs may be the best of a bad bunch – media personalities that is; but he is still simply a media personality. Where is his administrative expertise? Where is his knowledge of fiscal matters – personnel – etc.? He has no qualifications.

I may agree with a lot of what he says but it still doesn’t hide the fact that he worked hand in glove with Mr. Ted ‘Commie’ Turner, a.k.a. Mr. Jane ‘I Love Communists Who Shoot Down and Torture Americans’ Fonda, for years and years and still speaks of that moron in glowing terms of endearment.

Neither does it eliminate the possibility that his supposed ‘break’ with the Commie National News organization may have been simply staged to get him an inside track with the vast uniformed masses who can’t think for themselves but have to have a ‘Leader’ to follow. Glen Beck, Lou Dobbs, what’s the difference? Two for hire ultra-rich mouth pieces who have spent their lives reading what their master’s tell them to read. I may think Ron Paul is not the nice old guy I’d want to lead me on a battlefield but at least he has earned the respect of all who believe in the Constitution and the rights of We the People, by his being in the trenches – generally alone, for a score of years. I don’t wonder who writes his speeches or what his agenda is – he is pretty much what he appears to be, and that isn’t some pampered mouth piece of the super elite.

This is ridiculous and if folks fall for this nonsense they most certainly will deserve what they get; e.g. California and their super media personality Arnold……..

Lou Dobbs has just announced his supportr for AMNESTY for illegal aliens.

That disqualifies him for any elected office in this country — in my notvery humble opinion.

“Dobbs Says He Now Backs Amnesty

In a little-noticed interview last week, Lou Dobbs announced that he now supports amnesty for the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants living in the United States

Since he left his job as a CNN commentator two weeks ago, Dobbs’ has been bandied about as a Senate candidate in New Jersey. And now he is indicating that he might run for president.

But Dobbs became famous for his strong views on illegal immigration and foreign trade. Now that he’s a would-be politician, those views appear to be softening. Dobbs told Spanish-language network Telemundo he now supports a plan to legalize millions of undocumented workers, a stance he long lambasted as an unfair “amnesty.”

“Whatever you have thought of me in the past, I can tell you right now that I am one of your greatest friends and I mean for us to work together,” he said in a live interview with Telemundo’s Maria Celeste. “I hope that will begin with Maria and me and Telemundo and other media organizations and others in this national debate that we should turn into a solution rather than a continuing debate and factional contest.”

Dobbs twice mentioned a possible legalization plan for the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants in the U.S., saying at one point that “we need the ability to legalize illegal immigrants under certain conditions.”

On Monday, Dobbs appeared on former Sen. Fred Thompson’s radio show. When asked by the former presidential candidate if he was urged to consider running for president himself and was indeed weighing a bid, Dobbs replied, “Yes is the answer.”

Dobbs told Thompson he was undecided about running for president but said he would “be talking some more with some folks who want me to listen to them the next few weeks.”

He later told a Washington radio station, “For the first time, I’m actually listening to some people about politics. . . . I think that being in the public arena means you’ve got to be part of the solution.”

It’s unclear whether Dobbs, who received an $8 million severance payment when he left CNN, would run as an independent or a Republican.

On Tuesday, Dobbs’ spokesman Robert Dilenschneider sought to quiet the presidential speculation a bit.

He told The New York Times, “I think Lou is realistically saying, that’s a long way off, but if he did run for office, there’d have to be an intermediary step, such as the Menendez seat.” He was referring to a 2012 race against incumbent Democrat Robert Menendez.

Dilenschneider said Dobbs was inspired by Republican gains in New Jersey this month and by President Obama’s decline in popularity.

Dobbs briefly considered a primary run against Republican gubernatorial candidate Christopher Christie, who won the election over incumbent Democrat Jon Corzine.

Dobbs has received the most attention for his strident opposition to illegal immigration. Menendez is an avid supporter of immigrant rights and the only Hispanic member of the Senate.”

I hate to break it to you, but Ron Paul isn’t the saint you try to make him out to be. He votes quite often for legislation that harms this country. Therefore he is just like the rest, and should be voted out in the next election along with the rest of congress.

I like Lou Dobbs, but what executive experience does he have. No, but I’m voting for Sarah Palin who has executive experience and a Ronald Reagan quality that we have not seen since Reagan’s departure as President.

As I have stated, innumerable times. These buffoons Dobbs, Beck, O’Reilly, Limbaugh, et al
are in show business ..SHOW BUSINESS!
If taking a stance(pose) on some particular so-called, issue even threatens to cause the slightest bit of upheaval in their cushy, opulent, lifestyles they will beat a hasty retreat. In this matter they are to a person so totally ignorant it is pathetic

    Obama is considered Muslim

We know he is a lier, is un impostor, etc, etc and is not doing any better for this country
In the laws of Muslims…. what could be his sentence?
To be lapidated? cut hands and legs?
Isnt he afraid of his own religion?

We Americans, we should give Obama to his Muslims camarades to take care of him per Muslim laws
