I will never compare the District of Criminals to drunken sailors ever again. Drunken sailors are at least spending their own money into oblivion.

I’m sure the Democrats will negotiate in good faith the next time though. Right? What a joke the Republicans are.

    Dear Orly,

Other points in the Washington Times article:

    1. The giant jump comes because the government was replenishing its stock of “extraordinary measures” — the federal funds it borrowed from over the last five months as it tried to avoid bumping into the debt ceiling. Under the law, that replenishing happens as soon as there is new debt space. In this case, the Treasury Department borrowed $400 billion from other funds beginning in May, awaiting a final deal from Congress and Mr. Obama.

    2. Usually Congress sets a borrowing limit, or debt ceiling, that caps the total amount the government can be in the red.

But under the terms of this week’s deal, Congress set a deadline instead of a dollar cap. That means debt can rise as much as Mr. Obama and Congress want it to, until the Feb. 7 deadline.

Debt is bad when it comes to individuals AND Gov’ts.

If a person should live within their means, a gov’t should function within it’s means! The fundamentals of why a debt is bad doesn’t change from person to nation & vice versa! Debt is BAD…. PERIOD! End of story!

The actual debt, if the US government was forced to follow the same accounting guidelines of US corporations, is around 120 trillion, so what’s the big deal about passing 17 trillion???

As long as the arrogant, pompous, clueless know-it-alls in Washington can get themselves re-elected, they don’t care what their reckless, unsustainable spending does to the U.S. dollar, our children and the future of our republic.
