Obama Denies Cheney Request

 

Readers may recall that in late April, former Vice President Cheney requested the declassification and release of CIA memos which showed how effective enhanced interrogations, including the waterboarding of only THREE terrorists, were in providing the information that Cheney asserts saved thousands of American lives.

Democrats insisted that the memos proved nothing and Obama insisted that the information could have been gotten by other means even if it was “harder” to get the information.

I speculated at the time that Obama would NOT release the memos, despite the claim that they were the best source to discredit the former Vice President if the information showed he was wrong.

On May 14, the CIA officially declined Cheney’s request stating that the memos were the subject of a Freedom of Information ACT (FOIA) lawsuit and could not be released.

White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs (Gibbels) attempted to spin the issue stating that “The CIA is the agency that has jurisdiction over this.”  Gibbels went on to blame the Bush Administration which modified an Executive Order limiting release of information in such circumstances.

However, what Gibbels failed to mention was that the documents Obama previously released that created such a firestorm about so-called “torture” were also the subject of a FOIA lawsuit but Obama declassified and released them anyway.

There is no legal restriction on Obama’s power to declassify and release these documents.  And yet, his Administration is taking every effort to block their release.

Former Vice President Cheney has filed an appeal of the CIA decision.  But this process could be stopped today if Obama wished it to be.  And for documents which Democrats claim prove Cheney is a liar, one would think they would be only too happy to expedite matters.

The fact that Obama is using every bureaucratic tool to block release of these documents should raise serious questions for people who desire to learn the truth about how well waterboarding THREE terrorists worked to save American lives.

    I don’t know his ‘real world’ name, but his on line screen name is Beckwith.

    Go here and look under the heading, Operator, in bold type: https://www.theobamafile.com/ReadMe.htm. he says. “I answer to Beckwith.”

    He also posts a lot of Obama related info at Free Republic under that same name.

    In a “Web-based conservative radio show based in San Diego” Beckwith supposedly “told hosts Jeff Lynch and Mike Howard that Obama’s “relationship to Islam is the big question. When one investigates the background of Obama’s conversion, I can find no record of his baptism.”

    The article those quotes came from accuses Beckwith of being part of a Free Republic originated email about Obama being Muslim. Beckwith denies the accusation about him.

    I believe there is a blogger named Beckwith that manages the Obama File Site or has some affiliation with it; I hope this helps.

    Domain registrants maintain a database with information on those involved in domains. It is called WHOIS. I use whois.pairnic.com. Enter the domain and you can find out information on those who are responsible for it. Here’s what I find when I run theobamafile.com:

    Ｆｏｒ　anyone to have a correct understanding of this torture issue, I think we need to have the story on both sides. To selectively release the information useful to one party and block the information from release which is useful to the other party is wrong. I am opposed to random use of enhanced interrogation against just any prisoners, yet for confirmed terrorists who have vital information, do you think we would be able to get the intelligence we need to protect the American people by simply being nice to them and inviting them to sit down and have a talk? I would see how the Obama administration can accomplish that. I think when discussing the torture issue, we need to consider the context.

    I have e-mailed several msgs to Beckwith, who refuses to accept the Mr.
    title……I asked the person questions about articles that has been written
    on the http://www.islamic.watch.org website concerning the Muslim/Islamic principle of “taqiyya”, the art of deception! The e-mail response was…….

    “Thanks for writing”.

    “I’m very familiar with the Muslim practices of taqiyya”

    “And I’m just plain Beckwith . . . no mister”

    No Mr. Mrs. or Ms. !?!? I have in my lifetime been required to apologize for something I have done wrong,but never have I had to apologize for following just “plain good manners” I suppose it is just the sign of the times that we have allowed ourselves to be relegated to people who deserve no respect.I personally feel EVERYONE should be treated with respect until such a time that the person in question,deserves none.
