Dear Mr. Cruz, government can not grant natural born citizen status. You need to do your research better. In 1789, one year before the Constitution was ratified, Dr. David Ramsey, one of the founding fathers and close friend of George Washington wrote, A DISSERTATION On THE MANNER OF ACQUIRING THE CHARACTER AND PRIVILEGES OF A CITIZEN OF THE UNITED STATES, David Ramsay 1789. In it he wrote, “None can claim citizenship as a birth-right, but such as have been born since the declaration of independence, for this obvious reason: no man can be born a citizen of a state or government, which did not exist at the time of his birth. Citizenship is the inheritance of the children of those who have taken a part in the late revolution; but this is confined exclusively to the children of those who were themselves (citizens.”) Note he said “citizens”, plural and stated those rights are (inherited). Since this nation was formed I have yet seen anyone inherit anything from government.
In 1775 Benjamin Franklin wrote a letter to Charles Dumas, in it he wrote,(this is just part of the letter) Dear Sir,
    Philadelphia, 9 December, 1775.

“I am much obliged by the kind present you have made us of your edition of Vattel. It came to us in good season, when the circumstances of a rising state make it necessary frequently to consult the law of nations. Accordingly that copy, which I kept, (after depositing one in our own public library here, and sending the other to the College of Massachusetts Bay, as you directed,) has been continually in the hands of the members of our Congress, now sitting, who are much pleased with your notes and preface, and have entertained a high and just esteem for their author.” Note he stated that the Law Of Nations had been (continually) in the hands of the members of Congress. This is the book the founders relied upon to write the Federal Constitution. In Vattel’s Book I, he defines natural born citizen as follows, “The citizens are the members of the civil society; bound to this society by certain duties, and subject to its authority, they equally participate in its advantages. The natives, or natural-born citizens, are those born in the country, of parents who are citizens.” Again, “parents” and “citizens” in plural. The Constitution clearly makes a distinction on the requirements to be POTUS or to serve in congress and natural born citizen and a citizen are not the same. Thomas Jefferson wrote, ”
“On every question of construction (of the Constitution) let us carry ourselves back to the time when the Constitution was adopted, recollect the spirit of the debates, and instead of trying what meaning may be squeezed out of the text, or invented against it, conform to the probable one in which it was passed.” In plain English, the constitution is not what anyone of us or any politician or judge thinks it is, the constitution means what the founders meant it to be. Again, government (can not) change the meaning of natural born citizen since government (has no power or authority to grant it,) it can only be (acquired by inheritance.) Neither you, Rubio or the illegal alien at the WH are natural born citizens.

    Taino21:…

Wow! This just seals the coffin on Cruz!

Even I didn’t know that the Founders used the Vattels Law of Nations to construct the Constitution! And I mean that to construct our own Law of the Land! I knew they referred to it, but you made this a lot more plain to understand!!

This is absolutely the best post of this subject that I’ve seen.

This should keep Cruz from any further run for the Office…and if it doesn’t, he should be arrested for treason!

    Bravo!!!!
