    Back in the late 70s, a US citizen was held in contempt for not revealing their workproduct. The govt demanded their workproduct be given to them because the govt wanted to know who were “critics” and they sought this information to investigate the “critics”. Nothing has changed.

    Here is some content for the contempt proceedings:

    CONGRESSIONAL POWERS OF OVERSIGHT AND INVESTIGATION

    Congress has a duty to ascertain whether laws are being enforced before it considers amending those laws or enacting new laws. This power has been upheld by the Supreme Court from 1791 to 1975. In the leading case in this area, the Court has stated.

    The power of the Congress to conduct investigations is inherent in the legislative process. That power is broad. It encompasses inquiries concerning the adminstration of existing laws as well as proposed or possibly needed statutes. It includes surveys of defects in our social, economic or political system for the purpose of enabling the Congress to remedy them. It comprehends probes into departments of the Federal Government to expose corruption, inefficiency or waste. Watkins v United States, 354 US 178, 187 (1957).

    As we see here today, SCOTUS is not doing it’s job…Congress is not doing it’s job..

    I guess they need a reminder what their duties are..

    CONGRESSIONAL POWER TO ISSUE SUBPENAS

    To oversee the administration of Federal laws and to investigate matters which may need legislation, Congress has the power to use compulsory procecss; that is, issue subpenas for documents, compel testimony (except when it would be self-incriminating), and have such testimony pursuant to laws providing for prosecution of “perjury”. The rationale for compulsory process is summarized by the Supreme Court in McGrain v Daughtery, 273 US 135, 175 (1927):

    Experience has taught that mere requests for information often are unavailing and also that information which is volunteered is not always accurate or complete: so some means of compulsion are essential to obtain what is needed…

    Lastly, another excerpt..

    During the Watergate period congressional investigations into the subject were carried on simultaneously with grand jury investigations. If a complaint is made that pretrial publicity stemming from a congressional investigation would be detrimental to a fair trial, the Court can continue (postpone) a trial until the effect of the publicity is dispelled, it can grant a change of venue, it can order the jury sequestered, and/or it can see to it that an assiduously thorough voir dire is conducted (see,”The power to Probe” James Hamilton, 1976, pp. 140 – 145 and cases cited therein).

    Seems like Congress can get their healthcare but not anyone else..

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/federal-eye/wp/2014/06/09/va-says-more-than-57000-patients-waiting-for-first-visit/

    VA says more than 57,000 patients waiting for first visit
    By Josh Hicks June 9 at 12:31 pmMore Comments The Department of Veterans Affairs said Monday that more than 57,000 patients are still waiting for their first medical appointments at VA medical centers after waiting for at least 90 days, according to the Associated Press.

    Another 64,000 veterans who enrolled in the VA health-care system over the past decade have never had appointments, the department said.

    The information comes from the agency’s internal audit of 731 VA medical centers. The department released the findings on Monday.

    The report said that complicated scheduling practices created confusion among clerks and supervisors, contributing to the problems. The audit also said that the VA’s goal of seeing patients for the first time within 14 days was unattainable because of the growing demand for care among veterans.

    As outrageous as this is it is no real surprise to those of us who have long ago sensed the threat of our own weapons of war being used in our own streets against the citizens of this country.

    The Obama administration isn’t only giving the Taliban back its commanders — it’s giving them weapons.

    Military records and sources reveal that on July 25, 2012, Taliban fighters in Kunar province successfully targeted a US Army CH-47 helicopter with a new generation Stinger missile.

    They thought they had a surefire kill. But instead of bursting into flames, the Chinook just disappeared into the darkness as the American pilot recovered control of the aircraft and brought it to the ground in a hard landing.

    The assault team jumped out the open doors and ran clear in case it exploded. Less than 30 seconds later, the Taliban gunner and his comrade erupted into flames as an American gunship overhead locked onto their position and opened fire.

    The next day, an explosive ordnance disposal team arrived to pick through the wreckage and found unexploded pieces of a missile casing that could only belong to a Stinger missile.

    Lodged in the right nacelle, they found one fragment that contained an entire serial number.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    It’s the Muslim holiday, Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan. President Obama has decided to give $195M of taxpayer money to the Islamic nation of Syria to mark the occasion.
    In an official White House release, President Obama said: “Michelle and I send our warmest greetings to Muslims celebrating Eid al-Fitr here in the United States and around the world. During the past month, Muslims have honored their faith through prayer and service, fasting and time spent with loved ones.”
    Then, he gets to the best part of any holiday celebration…the gifts!
    “To help the many Syrians in need this Eid al-Fitr, the United States is providing an additional $195 million in food aid and other humanitarian aid, bringing our humanitarian contribution to the Syrian people to over $1 billion since the crisis began.”
    Meanwhile, the sequester continues, the White House is not conducting educational tours, and our military don’t have the necessary equipment to protect themselves.
    Is this a time to celebrate with a war-torn Muslim country, or a time to be fiscally responsible?
