CBS News poll: Trump maintains commanding lead over GOP field

By Anthony Salvanto, Fred Backus, Jennifer De Pinto, Sarah Dutton. Donald Trump (35 percent) continues to hold a commanding lead over the rest of the field, with a 17 point lead over his closest rival, Texas Senator Ted Cruz (18 percent).

    Is as ridiculous as all of the nonsense that Cruz/Rubio and the left has put us through!

    I’ve been saying this since at least October. Its a totally unscientific opinion with zero data points to support it beyond a single, wholly subjective observation that is as cogent now as it was when it was first voiced:

    Who else in the GOP can command the attention and focus the energy of its batshite-crazy core voters today? Who among them can do what Trump is doing as well as Trump?

    The answer today is the same as it was back last autumn: no-one in the GOP field can match him, and so no-one can supplant him.

    The GOP leadership has spent the last three generations sowing the wind, and are finally reaping the whirlwind.

    The best the rest of us can hope for is it to remain a localized phenomena.
