a letter from the former Attorney General of the US, Edwin Meese, III

When President Reagan discussed with me who he should select as his Supreme Court nominee back in 1986, one name came immediately to mind: Antonin Scalia.
Even then, he was a noted legal scholar and a stalwart defender of the Constitution. And history has made clear that President Reagan made the right choice. What a powerful voice for freedom and the original intent of our Founders Justice Scalia was, and what a fine and honorable man.
Justice Scalia was a great friend, and one of the most outstanding Justices in our nation’s history. His passing is an enormous loss for those of us who knew and loved him… and for America.
The only thing worse than losing such a tremendous voice for our Constitution would be to see him replaced by a liberal appointed by President Obama, and see all his work these past three decades be undone.
You and I must not let this happen. We must stand firm as conservatives and defenders of original intent, and do everything in our power to prevent Justice Scalia from being replaced by another lockstep liberal who would render our Constitution meaningless.
Best wishes,
Edwin Meese, III
Former United States Attorney General
