Asia Bibi will not die!/ ¡Asia Bibi no será ejecutada!
[Lea la versión en español más abajo]

We would like to wholeheartedly thank all of our readers who took action and wrote to the President of Pakistan with a petition to revoke the death sentence of Asia Bibi and to cancel or overhaul the blasphemy law used to sentence her.
Our initiative (on our Bulletin V-32) was no more than a grain of sand among the efforts made from all over the World, but we all contributed with our petitions to save Asia Bibi’s life.
As a result, Pakistani Christian woman Asia Bibi, who was convicted of blasphemy, is being pardoned by Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari, according to the governor of Punjab state, Salman Taseer. Taseer told CNN’s Connect the World program that “ a liberal, modern-minded president, and he’s not going to see a poor woman like this targeted and executed. … It’s just not going to happen.”
Bibi has been jailed for almost 15 months, and was convicted earlier this month for blasphemy for allegedly insulting Prophet Muhammad after Muslim women refused to drink the water Bibi had fetched on the grounds that she was Christian. Bibi denies these accusations and states the women lied to seek revenge.
However, a government minister has stated that Pakistan will not repeal it’s blasphemy law, but may consider amending it to prevent further abuse of the law.
