President Obama refuses to meet with Governor Gibbons about tourism comments

Carson City – The Office of Governor Jim Gibbons was notified today that President Barack Obama has refused to meet with the Governor and key business leaders from Nevada. Governor Gibbons requested the meeting in a letter to President Obama so the President could address statements he made that were critical to Nevada and have caused economic damage to convention business and tourism business in the Silver State. Earlier this year, the President told an audience in Elkhart, Indiana, “You can’t get corporate jets. You can’t go take a trip to Las Vegas or go down to the Super Bowl on the taxpayer’s dime.” That quote was seen by many as an insult to Las Vegas and as a message to companies across the Nation to stay away from Las Vegas for corporate meetings and conventions.

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority reports over 400 conventions and business meetings scheduled to take place in Las Vegas recently have cancelled. These cancelled events translate into 111,800 guests in Las Vegas and over 250,000 “room-nights”. The cancelled conventions and meetings have cost the Las Vegas economy over $100-million, not including gaming revenue.

“I am disappointed at the hypocrisy shown by this Administration,” Gibbons said, “President Obama is coming to Las Vegas later this month for a political fundraiser, but he will not help the struggling families in Las Vegas and Nevada who are out of work because of his reckless comments.” Governor Gibbons noted, “President Obama is coming to Las Vegas to raise campaign cash for Senator Harry Reid, apparently our money is good enough for the President, but our tourism, jobs, and economic future are not.” Gibbons added, “This is politics, pure and simple, President Obama stood for change, but all he has done is brought negative economic change to Nevada.”

Governor Gibbons is calling upon Senator Reid to use any influence he might have to ask President Obama to encourage Americans to visit America during their summer vacations this year. “Sometimes Washington politicians forget that the people of Nevada are Americans,” Governor Gibbons said, “This President needs to repair the damage he has done.”

    I agree whole heartedly with everything said except this:
    “I believe in free speech, but only if it is used with some sense of responsibility. I believe when it is destructive, then it should be limited or controlled in some respect.”
    which is precisely the argument behind the “Fairness Doctrine”.

    I have a blog similar to this one but about different issues. If you use the spam button a certain number of times, they take the option away. Mine doesn’t work anymore either.

    Can you ban the Obots by name, email address or IP#?

    If the Obot is on a dialup connection, you may have to block with a * wild card character, i.e. nnn.nnn.nnn.*, as dialups usually are connected to revolving modem banks and use a different IP# each time they connect.

    You probably should carefully check all of your administrative settings again as something that wasn’t clear the first time through will become clear the second time through (or the third or fourth).

    Governor Gibbons should join Orly’s lawsuit or find the guts to file one in his own right. It would have original jurisdiction in the Supreme Court.

    I don’t think people are necessarily staying away from Las Vegas because of Obama’s comments, either, but it shows how arrogant Obama is. He clearly is not an American. He is robbing car dealership owners of their hard-earned property and making it the federal government’s property. That’s what Hugo Chavez did in Venezuela a few years ago. And this abomination is what a lot of ignorant, uninformed, selfish people voted into office, along with a little help from their friends, George Soros, ACORN and the Bilderberg Group.

    Has Governor Gibbons been sent any of the dossiers on Obama? Maybe he’ll file a suit. It is amazing how many people still have not heard that Obama is a fraud, or maybe they just don’t want to believe that someone could actually not even be a U.S. citizen and get elected to the office of president.

    Ding Ding Ding..what do we have for her Johnny? Why Mary, you’ve stated the Democratic tactics to a tee. That why Mr. “Have to have my teleprompter” Obama only takes soft questions from those previously selected fellow leftist journalists. He can’t handle the tough ones. And you leftists still can’t figure out why Air America and other liberal radio aren’t profitable! You want to shut down conservative shows which are profitable and popular.
