As I flew from MO, the plasma screen on my lap top cracked. Does anyone know, where can I repair it inexpensively?

How old is it and what brand ? If it is not under warranty, then it may be better to just buy a new one. Some of these companies require you to ship the computer to the manufacturer for repair ( could even be out of the country ). Adding the cost of shipping, parts, labor , downtime, you may be paying close to repairing it than what you would pay for a new one. One thing you have to consider. If you have sensitive files on the hard drive ( legal strategies, etc.. ) those can be read ( and copied ) by the repair tech. Who knows where they would end up.

Unfortunately, on most laptops over two years old, it’s not worth replacing a laptop’s screen unless someone is handy with tools and comfortable with tinkering inside a laptop (it’s actually not that difficult). What you need to do is disassemble the laptop until you have the screen free and can read all the model #’s and serial numbers on it. Then you need to search EBay for an EXACT match (This is because the LCD screen is matched to its inverter. Sometimes they can sell you a new screen with a new inverter, so exact matching isn’t an issue) Price will be in the $100-300 range.

For laptop disassembly instructions, search the manufacturer’s website for your laptop’s service manual. If you can’t find the manual, email me the make and model number and I’ll try to find it for you.

To have this done professionally is not worth the money if the machine is approaching 3 years old. This is why, for laptop purchases, I always recommend a full 3 year warranty INCLUDING a 3 year accidental damage warranty. It will cover even rough handling of a laptop for its useful life.

    Hi..

    Yikes….

Somethings are more expensive to fix then to actually upgrade and purchase new.

It really depends on what laptop you have. I know if anything ever happens to my Viao screen then it would actually cost more to replace the screen then to go purchase a newer laptop.
