Mail ballots indicate low-turnout election
June 1st, 2012, 1:22 pm by Martin Wisckol, Politics reporter
Mail ballots arriving at the Orange County elections office indicate a low-turnout for Tuesday’s primary, with voting on pace to see less than 30 percent of registered voters casting ballots in the county.
“It’s running low statewide too,” county Registrar of Voters Neal Kelley. “Possibly because we already know who the presidential nominees are and because there are only two statewide ballot measures.”
As of today, Kelley has received 167,664 mail ballots, representing 10.4 percent of all registered voters. At the Friday before the June 2010 primary, Kelley had received mail ballots from 11.4 percent of all registered voters and final turnout was 30.1 percent.
The highest county turnout in recent primaries came in 2000, when 59 percent of voters cast ballots. In the 2008 June primary – the year a separate presidential primary was held in February – there was low turnout of 22 percent.
Comment from Orly:
I expect that there will be more of an effect of the voting by my supporters. As the Presidential primary is over and there are only a couple of propositions on the ballot, the only people, who ae motivated, are the ones, who are fighting for a cause. My candidacy is a cause in itself: it is a cause of upholding the right to redress of grievances, legitimacy of elections. My supporters are highly motivated. Other candidates do not stand for any particular cause. In 2010 I got 537,000 in CA Republican Primary. If I will get the same number of votes, it would be sufficient in a primary, where 24 people are running. I hope that my supporters will allow me to be in the top 2 going into the November general election, but also will help me to increase the lead that I maintained for 4 months now.
I am asking all of my supporters for their votes and I am asking you to call all of your friends and family members in CA and ask them to vote for me in tomorrow’s primary. Please, remind them that we have a new rule, everyone can vote for everyone in the senatorial primary: Republicans, independents or members of other parties can vote for me. If you have a problem with registration, you can get a provisional ballot. The polls will be open until 8pm. We can do it!
Keep in mind, the latest Pulse Public Opinion poll, taken yesterday, shows me in the top 2 with Feinstein. I have been maintaining the lead among Republicans since the first day of the campaign until the last day of the campaign, in spite of the fact that the establishment did anything and everything to suppress my candidacy and promote convenient puppets. Yesterday’s poll also shows that if the general election were to be held today 39% would vote for me and 4% are still undecided. This means that 4 out of 10 Caifornians are supporting me. That translates to some 16 million people in a state of 40 million. There are many who want transparent government and real change. We can do it! I need your help and I count on your help.
thank you for all of your support
