Government shut down is just a joke and a farce: half of furloughed workers (400,000 our of 800,000) were ordered back to work by Hagel

Posted on | October 5, 2013 | 3 Comments

85% of the government is working, Hagel ordered 400,000  furloughed DOD workers back to work. Remaining 400,000 will be paid in back pay.

https://news.yahoo.com/pentagon-most-furloughed-civilians-ordered-back-175149741–politics.html

So, we are seeing that this whole shut down was more of a joke and a show. Today there are 2.3 million civilian federal workers, about 600,000 postal workers and about 2 million members of the military. A total of about 4 million. Now only 400,000 are furloughed, the House already unanimously voted to pay them for furlough in back pay, so they just got a paid vacation. Only 10% of government employees are on furlough, 90% are working as usual. Considering that during Clinton administration we had only about 1,840,000 civilian federal employees, the remaining 400,000 are not only non-essential, they are not necessary and should be laid of.

Further,  if 90% of the government is working and 90% of the employees are paid salaries by us, why is the government closed?  Either they should shut down most of the government and we get the benefit of less spending by the federal government during the shut down or provide all the services for which we, American taxpayers are paying.

The real battle will be October 17. Let’s hope Republicans will be strong enough to withstand yet another farce: Obama’s claim that we will default on our debt. In reality there is absolutely no reason for us to default, we take in in taxes, in revenues 5 times the amount of interest that we are currently paying on our debt.  If GOP will be strong enough to withstand  October 17 deadline without flinching, the jig will be up. It will be clear that all the threats that the nation will be in ruins if the government is shut down and if Obama’s debt ceiling is not raised, is nothing but a farce, a lie, a scheme to raise the debt ceiling   and squeeze us for more money. After October 17 Obama will be forced to seat down and seriously negotiate not only delay in Obamacare, but also serious spending cuts across the board and balanced budget. As long as Obama believes that GOP will capitulate in the 12 days, by October 17th, he will not budge.

Please, call your congressman, tell them to stand strong and not flinch until October 18th, after the debt ceiling red line is passed and the nation is still standing and paying its’ debts.

One thing about this “slimdown” that I have noticed is that there sure seem to be a lot of government employees that we could do without. Especially within the EPA. That entire agency could be eliminated and we’d save a lot of money and have fewer headaches. The IRS is another one that comes to mind.
