The Verb “Obambulate

A few days ago, Rush Limbaugh was talking about the verb Obambulate, which he said could be found in the Oxford English Dictionary. The definition he gave was priceless so I had to look for myself. I didn’t find it in the Concise Oxford Dictionary, but, sure enough, it is there plain as day in the unabridged Compact Edition of the Oxford English Dictionary, 1973 edition. Here is part of the citation from page 1961:

Obambulate, v. rare. [f. ppl. stem of L.  obambulare, f. ob– (OB-) + ambulare  to walk.] intr. To walk about; to wander hither and thither.

So Obambulation, walking to and fro; Obambulatory a., habitually walking about, itinerant.

Some examples of the word in context are precious, especially when contemplating the Obambulator-in-Chief of our harried nation. I must say that I’m glad to hear Obambulation is rare. Thus be it ever.
