What the public does not understand is that many laws do not get passed due to the senate filibuster which can easily be cancelled.
What is a filibuster? It is a rule in the US senate stating that it takes 60 senators to end deliberations in the senate and go to a vote on a law, which can be passed later on with a single majority of 51 votes.
Filibuster is not a federal law. It is simply a rule which can be changed by a simple majority of 51 votes in the senate.
A few years back Harry Reid, the senate majority leader, was exasperated by the difficulty to confirm federal judges, so he and the Democrats cancelled the filibuster for the votes on confirmation of the federal district and appellate judges. Later Republicans extended this practice of the votes on the Supreme Court judges and eroded the filibuster even further. This eliminated the huge bottleneck in approval of judges and many vacancies were filled.
Similarly, there is no filibuster for the budget votes.
It is time for the GOP with 53 to 47 senate majority to end the filibuster and pass two most important laws:
- National Voter ID law
- State allocation of districts based on the number of US citizens law, not census that includes all of the illegals
Why National Voter ID and National Federal Election holiday is so important? We know that Trump won 31 states to Harris’s 19. All of the states where Harris won, do not require an ID for voting. 13 out of 19 do not require an ID for registering to vote either. California is a worst offender. I was an attorney-observer for the GOP during this election. One of the areas I visited, was UCI, University of California Irvine. I happened to talk to the lead at the voting place there. The woman presented herself as Elena, I mentioned that I detected an accent. She said she was from Moscow, and I continued the conversation with her in Russian. She told me that some 85% of people voting there where not registered before. They were filling out the registration forms and voting on the spot. UCI has 34,000 students. It flipped District 47. While the Republican Scott Baugh was leading in that district on the election night and right after the election, as they continued counting the votes, it flipped to a Democrat. The same is happening in district 45, where Congresswoman Michelle Steel led by 13,000 votes on the election night, Now, after counting for 2 weeks these provisionary and mail in votes, the Democrat, Dereck Tran, is in the lead. The same is being done now in District 13 to the Republican Congressman John Duarte. They have been counting for 2 weeks and still counted only 86% of the ballots. It is totally unconscionable that it takes 2 weeks to count some 250,000 ballots, when other states counted millions of ballots within hours. Additionally, I witnessed ballots sent by fax and later transcribed by an employee of the registrar’s office. All the faxed votes that I saw were for the Democrats. They were all marked with letter M and number. Years ago such faxed votes were allowed only for the members of the military, who are fighting abroad. This time around, among some 22,000 faxed votes in Orange County, CA , only 900 were from the members of the military. With National Voter ID, each US citizen voter will be issued a biometric voter ID upon verification through the federal birth and death records, immigration records and IRS records, making sure that only the US citizens and the residents of prospective districts are voting. You might say, the Democrats might change this law when they are in power. However, if you couple this with the Federal Holiday for the federal election, the Democrats will have a hard time changing the law, as people like paid holidays. Besides, with clean elections, it will be hard for the Dems to get back in power. They will have to reconsider the whole party platform to become closer to the people in order to get back in power again.
2 Currently, the districting is based on census, which counts everyone, including illegals. Passing the law to allocate the districts based on the number of citizens and not a total number of residents, will cause the sanctuary states, like California, to lose a number of districts.
It is believed that each of these laws will net GOP about 6 more seats in the US congress. This will increase the GOP majority in the House, senate and in the presidential elections.
