Time for the 28th amendment: go back to starting voting age of 21, but make an exception to 18-21 year olds who serve in the military and work, support themselves and pay taxes

Time for the 28th amendment: go back to starting voting age of 21, but make an exception to 18-21 year olds who serve in the military and work, support themselves and pay taxes

By Dr. Orly Taitz, ESQ

Many leftist states are now trying to lower the voting age to 16. Dems would let kindergärtners vote if they could, simply because they are naive and would vote for a dream in the sky instead of reality.

But let’s look at out recent history.

Many Americans today believe that the starting   voting age of 18 years old was always there.

This is not the case. Until 1971  the voting age was 21 years old. In 1970s, during the Vietnam  war, there was the outcry about 18 to 21 year olds giving their lives for the country, but not having a right to vote. So, in 1971 the congress passed the 26th amendment, which was signed by President Nixon and ratified by 38 states, that gave voting rights to 18 to 21 year olds. At a time the intent of the legislature was to give voting rights to the members of the military as most men were drafted at the time and a small percentage was enrolled in college.

Now the situation is different. Nearly 70% of American high school graduates enroll in college. They do not serve, they do not work and do not pay taxes from age 18 to 21.

Now lets look at the matter from another angle.

In your family, in your household, who makes decisions how to spend family money? Do you let your kids, even college level kids, make decisions how to spend your hard earned money? Of course not! The parents work, they earn the money and they decide how to spend the family dollars. The kids, even the college age kids, have no says as they do not work and do not contribute to the family finances. Until they graduate, they are a financial burden on the family.

So, why do we allow kids, who do not work and do not pay income taxes, to make decision how to spend those tax dollars through voting?

I know it is a long shot, but don’t you think that it might be time for the 28th amendment where we would amend the 26th amendment and clarify that only 18-21 year olds who serve in the military or work and support themselves and pay income taxes, can vote?

What do you think?

I think it is a terrific idea, but will never get passed. Just like they need the illegals to vote, they also need the brain-washed kids the universities and colleges are churning out to vote.
