Allegedly, the government went harsh on OR ranchers because the government wants to take over their land, which allegedly has Natural Gas, Uranium, Mercury and Arsenic. The new judge, who increased sentence to 5 years, is a Clinton appointee

FBI Seeks ‘Peaceful’ End to Armed Standoff at Oregon Federal Building
Ore. ranchers at center of protest expected to report to prison

The judge in this case was Michael Hogan. From what I can see, he retired from the bench right after this case. The judge gave Hammond Sr. -3 months and Hammond Jr.-1 year. The government appealed and the sentence was set aside by the 9 th Circuit and they were re-sentenced by Federal Judge Ann Aiken. The prior judge on the case, Michael Hogan, who ruled that the Federal guideline of 5 years is a cruel and usual punishment and a violation of the 8th amendment, was Bush appointee. Ann Aiken, who increased the sentence to 5 years, is a Clinton appointee. Judge Aiken was married to James Klonoski, a political science professor at the University of Oregon and one-time chair of the Democratic Party of Oregon.

It turns out that the land the feds own, and the land in question at the Hammond Ranch have enormous amounts of Natural Gas, Uranium, Mercury, and Arsenic.

HAMMONDS TARGETED BECAUSE GOVERNMENT WANTS TO STEAL THEIR LAND
Feds want control of Harney County’s natural resources

Hammonds Targeted Because Government Wants to Steal Their Land

Here’s the story the corporate media will not tell you.
Dwight Hammond, 73 and son Steven Hamond, 46, were prosecuted and convicted as part of an effort to remove the Hammond family from their ranch land.
In October Tri-State Livestock News did a story on the Hammonds and the sentence they received for inadvertantly burning about 140 acres of Bureau of Land Management (BLM) rangeland in two separate fires.
“The jury convicted both of the Hammonds of using fire to destroy federal property for a 2001 arson known as the Hardie-Hammond Fire, located in the Steens Mountain Cooperative Management and Protection Area,” states a Department of Justice news release cited by the livestock industry trade publication.

According to the article the BLM often worked with ranchers on collaborative burns to manage invasive juniper that steal water from grass and other cover. Erin Maupin, a former BLM range technician and watershed specialist and rancher in the area, said backfires by other ranchers had burned BLM land in the past and the agency had not taken action.
During her tenure as a full time BLM employee from 1997-1999, Maupin recalled other fires accidentally spilling over onto BLM land, but only the Hammonds have been charged, arrested and sentenced, she said. Ranchers “would call and the BLM would go and help put it out and it was not a big deal.”
On the other hand, Maupin said, there were numerous instances of BLM fires spreading to private land and ranchers losing significant numbers of cattle and other property. Maupin said she was unaware of the BLM compensating ranchers for destroyed property.
BLM recklessness is not limited to Oregon:
In 2013, two South Dakota prescribed burns started by the U.S. Forest Service—over the objections of area landowners—blew out of control, burning thousands of acres of federal and private land. Ranchers that suffered property damage from the Pautre fire in Perkins County, South Dakota filed extensive tort claims in accordance with federal requirements, but will receive no compensation because USDA found the U.S. Forest Service not responsible for that fire.
Government Targeted Hammonds
As part of a deal to fend off an effort by the federal government to designate Steens Mountain as a federal monument, ranchers traded their BLM permits and private property for land on the valley floor. This allowed Congress to create a 170,000 acre wilderness in 2000.
“The last holdouts on that cow-free wilderness are the Hammonds,” said Maupin.
“It’s become more and more obvious over the years that the BLM and the wildlife refuge want that ranch. It would tie in with what they have,” Rusty Inglis, an area rancher and retired US Forest Service employee, told the trade publication.
The BLM prevented the Hammonds from watering their cattle by draining a water hole. Government scientists and resource managers supported the use of the water hole, but they were defeated by high level bureaucrats backed special interest anti-grazing groups. The Oregon Natural Desert Association worked with the government to deny the family a lease on a parcel of land that bordered the refuge “in order to expand the cow-free wilderness,” according to Maupin.
In addition, the BLM refused to renew a permit that allowed the ranchers to use a large amount of intermingled private land.
“We have done everything according to their rules and regulations and there is no reason that they should not give us back our permit. We don’t understand how a federal land management agency can ‘take’ personal private property (checkerboarded with BLM land) in this manner,” said Susan Hammond, Dwight’s wife.
During a plea agreement on the arson charge in 2012 the Hammonds agreed to allow the BLM to obtain the first right of refusal should the family sell their private land.
“The Hammond family is not arsonists. They are number one, top notch. They know their land management,” said Inglis. “We are not in Nazi Germany. We are in the United States of America.”
A Wealth of Natural Resources
After the Hammonds are gone the federal government will be free to fully exploit natural resources on federal and “monument” land in Harney County.
A US Geological Survey Bulletin (1740-B) indicates there is a high potential for silver, gold, copper, mercury, uranium and molybdenum (a refractory metallic element used principally as an alloying agent in steel) and other resources in the area. There is also a moderate estimate for natural gas and oil.
The feds want to drive ranchers and private property owners off the land because on patented land (an exclusive private property land grant), which has passed into private ownership, a mining interest does not need to lease land or file a plan or notice with the federal government.
In regard to oil, the BLM “does not tell you that its share of total oil production has dropped dramatically due to substantial increases in oil production on private and state lands that are not subject to the onerous regulations and permitting delays of the federal government,” notes the Institute for Energy Research.
The Hammonds and other private property owners stand in the way of total federal monopolization of natural resources and that is why in part we are witnessing an unprecedented land grab in the West.
“Much of the land targeted for government takeover holds great oil and natural gas resources which could provide jobs in the energy industry and a flow of resources from our own American supply. Once those lands become ‘monuments’, access to those natural resources is limited and in the hands of the federal government,” explains the Property Rights Alliance.
“The government offers little explanation for the land-grab frenzy, but there are plenty of reasons to oppose it. First and foremost, it is unconstitutional for the government to simply take land from states without compensation. Second, government-controlled land takes away opportunities for development, particularly when it comes to accessing much needed resources. The land designated as ‘monument’ space could have created dozens of employment opportunities—opportunities which will go wasted under the thumb of the federal government.”

Well what do you know. It had to be about something, and I’ll bet you Harry Reid knows something also.

I would want confirmation on this. It seems to me that if the Hammonds were sitting on natural gas and uranium, there would be private companies interested in their land, too. Have any of thi neighbors been approached for mineral rights?

reportedly, their neighbors already agreed to a land swap through BLM and relocated. It is my understanding that in these cases the oil and gas companies o not go to ranches, they go to BLM, as the land is leased

Orly is right. Follow the money.

It sounds eerily similar to how a city government seized private land and sold it to a private developer.

Wow! Have these folks been given time to think?

Have they been given a chance to speak to an attorney?

They should not be railroaded into anything!

And maybe they should discuss this with Trump, to see what he thinks should be done, in case he gets elected?

Or…as time goes by, they should be given a chance to hear a quote of real compensation-???

I don’t personally like the way the Federal govt throws its weight around!!

    Dear Orly,

Unbelievable! Here is an excerpt from an article about the Hammonds, where their attorney says they want to ask usurper-obummer for CLEMENCY (as if that could ever happen):

    https://theworldlink.com/news/state-and-regional/feds-monitor-armed-group-in-oregon-but-keep-their-distance/article_2bc9790a-5109-5ac4-9c5e-435f926a7f0e.html

    Excerpt:
“Kendra M. Matthews, an attorney for the men, said Monday they will seek clemency from President Obama.”

I think usurper-obummer and his wholly-owned-lock-stock-and-guns-BLM agency plan to continue their land-grab policies, no chance for clemency for the Hammonds.

There is a danger to the government in Oregon. There is always a danger in how the People will react to heavy handedness by the government… read that “covernment”… in this kind of thing.

Witness Ruby Ridge, Idaho where Randy Weaver’s wife, who was holding her baby, was gunned down in their cabin by an FBI sniper in August of 1992. This was the day after Weaver’s son Sammy and a federal marshal died in a shootout when the marshal shot Sammy’s dog, precipitating the further violence. The ‘cops’ started it. And they supposed they’d finished it. I believe it was at Weaver’s later trial, where he was acquitted of murder, that he testified that the two shotguns he had cut the barrel length down on and sold to an FBI informant, were of legal length when they left his possession. The feds claimed that he had cut them to about a half inch under legal length, thus driving the whole tragedy. They certainly could have been modified by the government to make them illegal.

And there’s Waco, Texas in April of 1993, where the feds, again under Bill Clinton’s and Janet Reno’s orders, as at Ruby Ridge, stormed the Koresh compound and touched off a firefight that led to the massacre of over 80 people. By using tear gas as the weapon of choice, insurance was given that the victims would be burned to death. There’s a saying: “When they want you dead, they’ll use tear gas.” This too was brought about by firearms the federal government says were illegal. But this time the county sheriff said the firearms were legal, ergo the feds were making stuff up.

So now we have Burns, Oregon… and the covernment’s very big problem. Not only has the BLM … Bureau of Land Management… squeezed the ranchers in the area to force them to give up the mineral rights to their property, ostensibly so the BLM and perhaps Harry Reid and son, can then make a ton of money off of federal leases, since the area contains gold, silver, copper, molybdenum and probably oil and gas, but the lone holdout to the government’s land grab in the area is the Hammond family… the center of the storm.

They were sentenced and served time in jail for burning off weeds. The fires they set to rid their own property of weeds inadvertently crossed over onto government land, burning government weeds. So of course they were charged with arson, something akin to burning down the White House. Keep in mind the government wants their land.

The BLM performs burnings all the time, the flames of which often accidentally cross over onto private land. The feds don’t compensate the land owners for the destruction, and to my understanding hardly give an apology. But when it goes the other way, especially if the feds want your land, evidently the rule is “Throw ‘em in jail and squeeze.”

So now what? We have the armed might of the U.S. government massed at Burns, Oregon. Opposing them is a group of occupiers who have taken over an unoccupied federal building. The feds are in a tight spot. On the one hand they can blow in there with all their might and create martyrs while a presidential campaign is raging, with the guy way out in front on the conservative side of things being able to ride that kind of federal misstep to a huge victory come November. And on January 20th he can issue his own executive orders, undoing all of the executive orders the current White House occupant has issued… plus turn the Department Of Justice loose to investigate and prosecute much of the current administration.

On the other hand the BLM and the rest of the Administration can eat crow over this one. This is the better option, though the feds will need to manage the damage with great care. Why do I say they have to use care? It’s because not only will it become more prominent in The People’s collective mind over time that this thing is sparked by a greedy land grab by the BLM to cash in on the gold etc. that is probably on the property, but now it turns out that a federal judge… Amanda Marshall… imposed herself on the original case after the fact, declaring that the time served in jail by the Hammonds was insufficient. But Marshall, who has since taken leave of her job as a federal judge because of ‘health’ reasons, perhaps had nasty ulterior motive in imposing herself.

Marshall, who was a staffer in a child advocacy legal job at the Oregon Department of Justice, was a left-wing Obama appointee to the office of federal judge. She spent part of her formative years being raised by an activist mother in a hippie commune and had no job experience as a federal prosecutor before becoming a federal judge, though she had been a deputy district attorney in Coos County, Oregon. But if the White House wants a woman for the job, that’s what they’re gonna get. But evidently they got the wrong one when they picked Amanda.

Folks you can’t make this stuff up. The Hammonds… remember them?… have a young relative who was well known to the child advocacy folks at Oregon Department of Justice. From what I know of children’s protective services they could be inspired by the Gestapo. So what we maybe have here is a bazooka-carrying female persecutor of anyone… especially a male?… who has a troubled youngster in the family and who can be targeted to somehow justify a twisted sense of justice that said persecutor carries around in her heart. Impossible? It gets better…

Judge Marshall ‘was’ a judge. She was turned in to the federal Office of the Inspector General by a male Assistant U.S. Attorney for stalking him. She is being investigated by the feds for stalking. She is now on medical leave. Can you believe it? Her own daughter says she’s “eccentric”. Eccentric enough to actually be psycho? I donno.

So that’s the obvious great danger to the government. Not only is the BLM looking like they want to rob a rancher of the mineral rights to his property, but the dingbat they’re using to accomplish this, an Obama appointee… may in my opinion be… a legitimate whack job, a cross-wired criminal. What do you suppose is going to happen when all of this comes out? As Sir Walter Scott said: “Oh what a tangled web we weave, When first we practice to deceive…”

You can read about Amanda Marshall at https://theconservativetreehouse.com/2016/01/04/unbelievable-update-oregon-bundy-militia-standoff-the-federal-prosecutor-at-the-heart-of-the-hammond-family-problem/

For the government it could get worse, even if so far it doesn’t look like it. There is a potential danger even more powerful. What if the occupiers at Burns form an amalgam with the other BLM… the Black Lives Matter folks? Think about it. Black Lives Matter partners with the ranchers and their myriad fellow believers across the country. They’re both fighting government oppression as they see it: The ranchers and other land owners at the federal and state levels; Black Lives Matter at local levels.

If Black Lives Matter turns out in our cities for the ranchers in Burns… becoming “All Lives Matter”… they would pick up a lot of support among whites that can be ridden in a united front all the way to changing government policies… and for black Americans, read that local police policies. For instance, should there be head-beaters on a police force, or trigger pullers, they are more effectively weeded out when the white power structure and voter is in your corner. If such a partnership is formed a lot of changes could be coming down the pike.
