Despite the tragic deaths of five U.S. military servicemen in Chattanooga, Tenn., last week at the hands of an apparent radical Islamic extremist, President Barack Obama has refused to order the nation’s flag to be flown at half-staff.
In what appeared to be a press release posted on Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s Facebook page, Trump took issue with that decision. And he also took action.
“Today Donald J. Trump has ordered all flags at Trump properties around the country to be flown at half-staff in honor of the five fallen soldiers who were tragically killed in last week’s shooting,” read the statement under the title “Donald J. Trump Orders Flags to be flown at Half-Staff at all Trump Properties in Honor of the Five Fallen Soldiers.”
The statement was dated July 20 but posted to Facebook early Tuesday afternoon.
“Mr. Trump has long been a dedicated supporter of our military and our veterans and if the president won’t act, he will,” the statement declared.
In the bold language that America has come to expect from Trump, he was quoted in the statement as saying, “This disgraceful omission is unacceptable and yet another example of our incompetent politicians. It is a simple yet meaningful and important gesture that signifies our respect and recognition for these great soldiers who lost their lives. We must do better for all Americans, especially our military. We must Make America Great Again!”
The last sentence, of course, is a repeated theme of The Donald’s presidential campaign.
Trump also created a hotline and email address for American veterans to “share their stories” about difficulties they had working with the Department of Veterans Affairs. Veterans can call 855-VETS-352 or email veterans@donaldtrump.com.
“If he is elected president he will take care of these and all veteran complaints very quickly and efficiently like a world-class businessman can do, but a politician has no clue,” the statement concluded.
