Hawaii is rabies-free and remains rabies-free because of strict quarantine rules and import exclusion for some animals.

As a veterinarian, I know these rules still exist even in the presence of a safe and effective rabies vaccination.

The U.S. used to be Ebola-free. If we want to become Ebola-free again, we know how.

Quarantine or exclude travelers from problem travel areas.

Point of origin, routes and passport stamps should identify problem travelers.

Those travelers entering without passing through conventional gates will be a threat to public health.

It is a function of the U.S. government to protect the public health of our citizens and residents.

Isn’t that the goal?
