What would have happened in WWII if an American soldier had deserted and six fellow soldiers had been killed in an attempt to bring him back?

Would the father of the deserter have HUGGED the US Commander in Chief and praised the Emperor of Japan? (also seen as a god)

Bergdahl’s father cryptically praised his son for “helping the Afghani People”: it immediately sounded as if Bergdahl the elder was happy that the terrorists were repatriated.

One wonders if this was the game plan all the time and Bergdahl the younger had coordinated his “escape” only to be later “traded,” albeit ILLEGALLY, for top notch terrorists who plan Doom and Destruction of our Nation and Way of Life.
