   My sample letter to my Senator. Anyone feel free to copy and/or edit.

   Senator,
   I am writing to you concerning the recent events concerning Meriam Ibrahim Ishaq. Meriam is a Sudanese citizen who was recently sentenced to be executed for converting from Islam to Christianity. Her husband Daniel is a US citizen doctor and to my understanding has filed for US citizenship status for his wife. I am writing to you in desperation to bring this to public debate on the Senate floor to expedite their citizenship status, thus protecting Meriam from execution based on international law. I plead for you now to address this with your colleagues to protect this courageous woman from being murdered simply for being Christian. May God guide you and your conscience bear upon you.

   A pregnant Pakistani woman beaten and stoned to death by her own family for marrying against their wishes was buried before dawn Wednesday as police pressed a manhunt for those who took part in the so-called “honor killing” outside a courthouse in downtown Lahore.

   Her father was arrested shortly after the killing on Tuesday, and confessed to having killed his daughter because she had married a man of her choice, defying the family’s wishes and conservative norms in the Muslim-majority country.

   Farzana Parveen, 25, was buried in the presence of some 100 mourners from her husband’s family at around 2 a.m. in a village graveyard in Pakistan’s eastern Punjab province, her husband Mohammad Iqbal said.

   He said his family had chosen to bury her at night because of the gruesome state of her remains.

   Instead of teaching love and concern for others, islam teaches blind hatred and the destruction, even of fellow muslims.

   Mehdi Ali Qamar, a 50 year-old cardiologist based in Lancaster, Ohio, was on a short visit to Pakistan to volunteer at a heart hospital in Chenab Nagar, a town in Punjab province that is home to Pakistan’s minority Ahmadi Muslim community.

   Pakistani media reports cited police spokesmen as saying two gunmen on a motorbike had opened fire as Qamar and family members left a cemetery after visiting relatives’ graves. They said he was shot between nine and 11 times.

   Qamar, who is survived by his wife and three children, has reportedly been a U.S. citizen for at least a decade.

   A spokesman for the Ahmadi community, Salim ud Din, told the Dawn daily the killing was part of an ongoing campaign of hatred targeting the minority. “The murder of the doctor who served fellow human beings without discrimination is most painful,” he said, noting that Ali had come to Pakistan “to serve his compatriots.”

   Salim ud Din recalled that leaflets have been circulated calling for the murder of Ahmadis, and declaring treatment at the heart hospital to be haram (religiously prohibited).

   KHARTOUM (Reuters) – A Sudanese woman sentenced to death for converting to Christianity is expected to be released soon, a government official said on Saturday, after Khartoum came under diplomatic pressure to halt her execution.

   “The related authorities in the country are working to release Mariam (Yahya Ibrahim), who was sentenced to death for apostasy, through legal measures,” Foreign Ministry Under-Secretary Abdelah Al-Azrak told Reuters.

   “I expect her to be released soon,” he added.
