What Putin’s call to Obama really means: it is not about giving back Crimea, stupid, forget that, it is about taking more land, this time, in my native Moldova

Posted on | March 29, 2014 | 9 Comments

Some are celebrating, believing that Putin’s yesterday’s call to Obama means some type of retreat, some success of sanctions and Russia suddenly is withdrawing its’ troops from Crimea.

In simple English: Fat Chance!

Putin’s call is a prelude to taking over more territory, specificly the area of Tiraspol, which is also called Transnistu or Transdniestria.

For years Russia treated this part of Moldova as a buffer zone and Putin is seeking a complete annexation of the area.  Russia had it’s troops in the area for years, it was well known that a Russian tank division under General Lebed is stationed there. Transdniestria used Russian Ruble, Russian and Ukrainian population there refused to speak or   write Moldovan, which is a Latin language with Latin alphabet and preferred to speak Russian or Ukranian and used Cyrillic alphabet. Big part of the population in the area are members of the Russian military and their families, many of whom settled in the area after the service. This might be reminiscent to Okinawa with a large population of American servicemen and their families.

I believe that after this call you will see a referendum in Moldovan area of Transdniestria to join Russia and a formal annexation of the area by the Russian federation.

So, if Obama is misinterpreting Putin’s phone call, let me provide a translation from Russian: it is not about backing down by Russia, it is about taking more land!

Furthermore, from 1944 occupation by the Soviet Union  to 1991 earned independence, roughly 50 years, Russia actively relocated ethnic Russian population to Latvia, particularly its’ Baltic part of Riga. At the time of the brake of the Soviet Union ethnic Russians in Latvia joined ethnic Latvians in seeking independence, however now they tried EU and did not work either. Economy of Latvia is in shambles. Most of heavy manufacturing was killed by the EU policies, the country is bankrupt, in heavy debt, as most of  the nations comprising EU. At the time of the proclamation of Independence of Latvia, just as it is in Crimea, ethnic Russians made up 60% of the population. Percentage of Russians might have gone down in Latvia due to the latest nationalistic policies and refusal to give citizenship to many non-Latvians, however this Russian population, as well as some ethnic Latvians disenchanted with EU, might give Putin yet another target area for annexation after Crimea and Transdniestria and this area contains a strategic Baltic port.

Obama does not make his own decisions- he is told what to do by the powers that installed him

Maybe also, Putin told Obama to back off, or he will release some info on his fake papers, and will take him down.

Seems reasonable. It’s how America progressively annexed more and more land, including New Mexico, California, Texas and Hawaii. Difficult to complain when Putin does the same thing.

    Testing! Testing!

Those people that called to think that everything was going to be okay, should not judge circumstances, too quickly.

Increase the sanctions to the point we drive the Russian economy over the cliff, just like Reagan did.

The Russian economy is right at the edge.

Sanctions all bank and company doing business in Russia,
Let him cut his only money lines, the gas line.

That will be the final mail for Russia.
