Charges for 106 in Huge Fraud Over Disability

By WILLIAM K. RASHBAUM and JAMES C. McKINLEY Jr. – Published: January 7, 2014

Cyrus R. Vance Jr., the Manhattan district attorney, held a news conference on Tuesday to announce the indictments.

…The online photos, along with intercepted phone calls and the testimony of undercover officers, were evidence of what officials said was the largest fraud ever perpetrated against the Social Security disability system, a scheme stretching back to 1988 in which as many as 1,000 people — many of them officers and firefighters already collecting pensions from the city — were suspected to have bilked the federal government out of an estimated $400 million.

…An indictment unsealed on Monday by the Manhattan district attorney’s office charges 106 people, four of whom are accused of running the scheme.

…Scores of former police officers and firefighters were arrested on Tuesday and brought in handcuffs to State Supreme Court in Manhattan, where they were arraigned before Acting Justice Daniel Fitzgerald on charges of grand larceny. They are accused of collecting between $30,000 and $50,000 a year.

…The inquiry started in 2008 when Social Security investigators noticed that two retired police officers who had gun permits were also receiving payments for a mental disability.

Ok, back to the IG of HHS which would seem like the Fox guarding the Hen House in this investigation. Well, this IG is probabaly very much aware of Orly’s other suits & FOIA requests, which if proven correct would put a cloud showing this IG to be tarnished in judgement if nothing is wrong. Therefore, this IG is in a CheckMate situation. Wondering…

    Dear Orly,

Box of Stashed Ballots Could Invalidate Contested Broomfield Election
    January 8, 2014
    By Leslie Jorgensen

    Excerpt:
BROOMFIELD – In the wake of lawsuits and complaints against Broomfield for attempts to cover up and ignore problems in the error-riddled November election, city officials now admit finding a box containing about 75 ballots that for unknown reasons were not counted or reconciled to the voter records.

Broomfield election officials plan to open the “Pandora’s Box” on Friday at 10 a.m. in the Zang Spur Room of the city and county building. Even if uncounted eligible ballots are found, Broomfield City and County Attorney Bill Tuthill said that won’t change the election results because they were certified.

But others disagree and contend that could be grounds to invalidate the election. And a Broomfield District Court judge barred the election certification in December.

“These materials were not included among any of the materials reviewed or included in the original count or the recount,” admitted Tuthill in response to litigation filed by plaintiff Broomfield Balanced Energy Coalition (BBEC).

Obot made a serious technical mistake in trying
to do this. Holder and Jarrett should restrain
    him better. Ditto, Michelle. IMO.
