OPPOSING COMMON CORE RALLY
Mississippi Capitol Steps
Jackson, Mississippi
January 7, 2014, 8:30 a.m.
The Mississippi Tea Party has worked very hard on a number of initiatives this year while making its main issue — stopping Common Core! On January 7, the opening day for the 2014 Legislative Session, there will be an opportune time to set the tone for leading a state-wide opposition to Common Core and a call for higher standards.
On this day the Mississippi Tea Party will join with other groups to hold an Opposing Common Core Rally. The purpose of this rally will be to gather likeminded Mississippians and to tell the MS Legislature with one STRONG VOICE that action on Common Core must be taken NOW!
Even after months of groups and individuals across Mississippi leading town halls, forums and symposiums on Common Core, there is still no evidence of support from the Senate or House leadership. But the public demand for change has grown to such a viral pitch stemming from social media, to talk radio, to editorials and to TV and news events that now is opportunity to let our voices be heard.
Together we must call the legislative leadership and our legislators to face glaring problems that they are not willing to resolve:
- the violation of student privacy
- the loss of state sovereignty over the curriculum, the standards and the assessment
- the missing pathway to S.T.E.M majors (science, technology, engineering & math)
We are asking EVERY citizen who shares these concerns come to the south Capitol steps onJanuary 7 to make a public showing of what a vast number of us believe, “No, we reject Common Core and any Federal takeover of our children, their private information or their education!”
Rally starts at 8:30 AM to be followed by a Press Conference at 10:30 AM – let’s be a voice to the rest of Mississippi – so they understand the danger of this Federal intrusion into our children’s lives. |
