Kaufman County District Attorney Mike McLelland carried a weapon after one of his assistant prosecutors, Mark Hasse, was gunned down earlier this year. On Saturday, Mr. McLelland and his wife Cynthia were shot in what appears to be a professional hit. The murders have prompted law enforcement throughout Texas to be on high alert. Additionally, the FBI and Texas Rangers are joining the investigation to prevent future harassment of U.S. law enforcement authorities located near the Mexican border.
