First page of Yahoo news and nearly 200 other papers talk about Governor Perry doubting Obama’s eligibility

Rick Perry raises doubts about President Obama’s birth certificate

(Isaac Brekken/AP)

Is Rick Perry a birther?

In an interview with Parade Magazine’s Lynn Sherr, the Texas governor recounts a recent dinner he had with Donald Trump, who apparently brought up his doubts about whether President Obama was born in the United States.

Asked point-blank if he thinks Obama is an American citizen, Perry did not deliver an unqualified reply in the affirmative and suggested he has doubts about whether the certificate released by the White House showing Obama was born in the U.S. is real.

But at the same time, Perry insisted the controversy is a “distractive issue” and ultimately “doesn’t matter.”

Here’s the full exchange, courtesy of Parade:

Governor, do you believe that President Barack Obama was born in the United States?
I have no reason to think otherwise.
That’s not a definitive, “Yes, I believe he”—

Well, I don’t have a definitive answer, because he’s never seen my birth certificate.
But you’ve seen his.

I don’t know. Have I?
You don’t believe what’s been released?

I don’t know. I had dinner with Donald Trump the other night.
And?

That came up.
And he said?

He doesn’t think it’s real.
And you said?
I don’t have any idea. It doesn’t matter. He’s the President of the United States. He’s elected. It’s a distractive issue.

Rick Perry said, ” it doesn’t matter”. Really Rick? It doesn’t matter?

It doesn’t matter that the man who was elected President, and is currently flushing the USA’s economy and our future down the toilet, may have achieved the White House by falsifying documents? It doesn’t matter?

Somebody with power needs to stand up and put an end to this whole mess once and for all, by demanding the original document be inspected. It’s sad that any of the Republican candidates don’t have the courage to do just that. And it’s sickening that this farce continues unchallenged.

Go back to Texas Rick. You just don’t have the cojones in my book .

It looks like the Donald will have to step back up to the plate. God help us all.

And another thing about Perry. Why did he say that Obama has never seen his (Perry’s) birth certificate, when he was asked about Obama being born in the United States? This guy really is confused.

But one thing he did succeed in doing was to let the cat totally out of the bag on Trump’s thoughts.Trump has met with every candidate to pick their brains and give advise. And something they all surely talked about was how to handle the birth certificate and social security number issues.

Maybe Perry wasn’t supposed to mention anything, but slipped. Or maybe he floated a trial balloon on purpose. In any case, he has sort of painted Trump into a corner, because now the Donald has to clarify his position to the press. And this in turn opens the next chapter……

Get your popcorn ready folks. Something is brewing.

Commentor, The Truth, misses THE most important point. It does NOT matter “where” aka Obama was born — his FATHER was a British Subject at the time of his birth. That is, IF he is “truthful” about WHO his father REALLY is.

Rick Perry disqualifies himself by being SO obtuse and deceptive. HE knows the reauirements to be POTUS and HE refuses to even talk about the issue — blowing it off as “of no matter”. IS Perry SO WEAK that he can not openly discuss “sensitive” issues for fear of the media crusading against him? He does NOT have the strength of character that I want in a POZTUS!

With such a WEAK field of candidates, the Republican Party is setting itself up to be a looser in 2012.

jmartpolitico RT @JohnJHarwood: Perry tells me why he kept Obama birther issue alive: “It’s a good issue to keep alive. It’s fun to poke at him.”

I completely agree with Sovereign Soul. The media is trying to hand us another John McCain (LOSER). They continually keep saying Herman Cain doesn’t have a chance and touting whatever Romney has to say. We must keep trying to fight this mess but it does seem futile. Rick Perry is not a strong candidate at all. The best quality that Herman Cain has is that he has No political experience. We MUST REPLACE the ENTIRE Congress in the next election.
I do wish Trump would start speaking out once again. Why can’t everyone see what is going on right in front of their faces? The fraud, the lies, the deception!
What if someone was in the presidency and had fake documents, doesn’t anyone want to know? It doesn’t matter? Appearantly not?

I’ll bet anything that Perry backs off this issue as fast as he can.

    Sovereign Soul,
I agree with you that his father is a British subject, but the whole matter has to be adjudicated by the Supreme Court, whether or not he’s a natural born citizen. It is just not going to happen anytime soon.

If we can get to the birth certificate, and it doesn’t match what was released April 27th or it doesn’t exist at all, that is it! Game over for Obama! He would be stopped dead in his tracks for falsifying his records and would be most likely charged for breaking several federal laws, and also removed from the presidency without an impeachment trial. Joe Biden would go to, because he was on Obama’s ticket. Every bill he signed into law could theoretically be scrapped also.

No offense, but please don’t tell me the birth certificate doesn’t matter. It does matter. It is part of the paper trail of serial criminal, and must be exposed to defeat him as soon as possible.

Mitt Romney, Marco Rubio and Bobby Jindal are not eligible to serve as POTUS or V-POTUS for the same reason Obama isn’t – their parents (plural=both) were not U.S. citizens when they, the aforenamed, were born.

If the presidential eligibility clause of the U.S. Constitution doesn’t matter anymore then the entire U.S. Constitution doesn’t matter anymore and we now live in a lawless country.
