Today Lamar Smith, R-TX, announced on Greta Von Susteren that the House Judiciary committee will hear argument on birthright citizenship. He stated that it is a legitimate issue, as many believe that the 14th amendment did not envision granting automatic U.S. citizenship to children of illegal aliens. This is a very important issue, as children of illegal aliens receive billions in free education, healthcare and other services. Often, large families of illegals are not deported, when one child is born in the country and received US citizenship, this way the whole family receives wellfare, the states and federal government are going broke, Americans are losing jobs. When this issue is discussed, there is a place and opportunity to demand determination and definition of not only the term “Citize”n under the 14th amendment, but also “Natural Born citizen”.

As I understand it, that amendment was to establish fairness on behalf of the American Indians, not illegal aliens.

Florence, you are completely wrong. Read up on the Civil War, and that might give you some insight into the reasons for the 14th Amendment.
