GOV PERRY: “DON’T TALK, JUST DO IT”

Please, look at this clip. Gov. Perry of TX is saying, what I said all along: “Soc Sec is just one of Ponzi Schems”, it is one of many big pots to skim from, to steal from” The governors and the state legislatures are complaining about out of control federal government. How do you take control from the out of control fed? You opt out of agreements. You opt out of SS administration. What will Obama do? Will he send U.S. Marines to storm the beaches of Rio Grande? Give me a brake.
I was thinking, is there anything in the Constitution, preventing the states from unilaterally setting tariffs and calling them sales taxes on cheap junk from China and using this money for Social Services and for job creation in their states? I don’t see anything in the Constitution preventing the states from doing this. After all, some states opt out of any state income taxes and draw all their revenues from the sales taxes. NV, TX and FL are examples of such states. The sales tax and the property tax are different in different states. What is to prevent them from setting lower sales taxes on U.S. manufactured products and higher taxes on foreign manufactured products, so that if you want to sell in TX, you will make higher margin of profit by manufacturing in TXor at least in U.S. v abroad. If one state does it, other states will do it as well. I believe, this might be one way to avoid the devastating effects of NAFTA and GATT and make them agreements on paper only. If the FED wants to continue with those schemes, because of bought and paid for Congressmen and Senators., it might be up to the states to end those schemes.
The FEDS will be left with a dilemma: either shut up and be happy with the income tax only, or try to fight the states and risk the secession and loss of all income tax revenues from those states. One wild guess. what will the feds pick?

Aside from the fact that your suggestion violates federalism and invades the province of the United States International Trade Commission, Orly, I think it is a stunning proposal. Truly stunning. If you cannot see anything in the Constitution it’s because you somehow overlooked the Supremacy Clause. State-enacted tariffs are trumped by the various federal acts.
