Poll: One-Quarter of NYers Are Tea Party Supporters
According to a Marist Poll of 686 New Yorkers which they commissioned in May, the News has broken the “phenomenon” wide open: one in four registered voters statewide consider themselves a Tea Party supporter. That translates to 21% in the city, and 25% in Long Island and Westchester County. As they put it, it is “enough to make any politician tremble.” Former Staten Island Borough President and longtime GOP “powerhouse” Guy Molinari, 81, said, “Want to know how big a deal they are? If I were running today, I would be kissing their butts.”
The News even attended a Tea Party-sponsored forum on LI to pick up some fun incendiary pull-quotes for your next dinner party, such as “Get the troops out of Korea – and send them to the border of Mexico!” and “Illegals get everything free – schools, health care, hospitals – while taxpayers pay for everything.” They follow this up with another piece today profiling some more members of the Tea Party, leading purposefully with Robert Dacunto, who was arrested in June 2000 in a $3.1 million Mafia stock scam, and who believes the “American government is the biggest gangster in the world.” No irony intended by the News, obviously.
