The anti-tax “tea party” protests held April 15 were so successful that two Republican governors are trying a variation of the formula Thursday.
Rick Perry of Texas and Mark Sanford of South Carolina are holding a town hall meeting by way of a telephone conference call to mobilize support for the anti-tax cause, states’ rights and a smaller federal government.
The event is formally called “The Fight for Freedom Call.” Pundits have dubbed it “Tea Party 2.0.”
Each governor will speak for several minutes, and then they will answer caller questions for an hour. The Republican Governors Association expects 30,000 people to listen in.

RGA Executive Director Nick Ayers told Politico news service that the event constitutes “a great opportunity to mobilize that support.”
He says Perry and Sanford “heard the frustration” of the tea party protestors and “understand that our Republican governors are the best positioned to lead on these issues.”
The RGA hopes the event will jumpstart grassroots support for Republican efforts to win the elections for governor this year in Virginia and New Jersey.
“We don’t have to wait until 2010 to send a message to Democrats in Washington that they are spending too much and borrowing too much,” Ayers says. “We’ll have an opportunity to do that this year.”
Many Republicans see the Tea Party movement as a way to galvanize opposition to Democratic policies.
“All you have to be is a mildly awake Republican candidate for office to get in front of that parade,” Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform, told Associated Press. |

If you can’t ask THE BIG question, don’t waste your chance to mention fundamental constitutional issues addressed by House legislation:
HR 450 – The Enumerated Powers Act: Each bill in the House must refer to its authority in the Constitution
32 co-sponsors
HR 539 – We The People – excerpt: “Article I, section 8 and article 3, section 1 of the Constitution of the United States give Congress the power to establish and limit the jurisdiction of the lower Federal courts”
Get the Fed courts out of sex, marriage and religion
2 co-sponsors
HR 1207 Audit the Fed – Where did the bailout money go? This one is hot: only 143 co-sponsors on 5/10 when I tuned in.
162 co-sponsors
**** Sneak in the BIG Question******
HR 1503 “Show the Birth Certificate” to run for President. Will help next election, but also INDIRECTLY bring attention to our issue

Does anyone have anything to report from the teleconference?

The “Fight for Freedom Call” lasted about 75 minutes. Governors Perry(Texas) and Sandford (South Carolina) mainly spoke about taxes and spending without addressing the issue: the Federal Government is way too big and rapidly becoming collectivist.
They frequently paused to solicit money for governor 2009 races in New Jersey and Virginia, and for 30+ races in 2010.
They took about ten calls mainly from South Carolina (Tariff of Abomination 1828, Nullification Crisis 1831-32), Georgia, Texas, New Jersey. In my opinion, the best question was from a young lady who was frightened by the talk of secession and wanted to know what she could do right now, rather than wait for mid-term elections.
In reply, the governor’s (don’t remember which one) urged her to pick a local issue, tel five friends to “support” it, who would tell five friends …
The governor’s also invited callers to write to them with ideas.

My call wasn’t taken. I would have said people should support the House bills and fight S 909. the “Hate Crimes Bill”.
Overall, the call event disappointed me.
Get signs advertising these bills ready for the July 4th Tea Party.
Visit your local Republican party gathering, push these bills, and flush the RINOs if you have any energy left.
C’mon, Citizens, keep busy, keep connected, and more opportunities will present themselves. “Never Give Up”!
