Attention: Honorable Congresswoman Michelle Steele
AN URGENT PLEA TO JOIN THE BIPARTISAN EFFORT TO BAN RUSSIAN OIL IMPORTS UNTIL PUTIN WITHDRAWS HIS TROOPS FROM UKRAINE
Dear Congresswoman Michelle Steele,
I am writing to you with an urgent plea to support a bipartisan senate bill to ban all oil imports from Russia until Russia withdraws all troops from Ukraine.
In the past eight days the whole world has been horrified watching Putin’s invasion into Ukraine, slaughter of innocent women and children, destruction of residential buildings and the whole cities and lately an absolutely insane attack on a large nuclear plant which risks a radiation holocaust all over Europe.
Please, think about it. On September 1, 1939 Hitler attacked Poland. If the world would have been united then, in September of 1939, World War II could have been prevented, some 20 million people would not have died all over the world.
During World War II Nazi Germany had to resort to cloaking, hiding its’ exports of Iron ore and other exports through neutral countries and banks. Today Putin does not even hide his exports.
The U.S. imports two types of oil from Russia: crude oil and refined products such as gasoline and kerosene. Last June, the U.S. imported 848,000 barrels per day of crude oil and refined petroleum products from Russia. https://www.politifact.com/factchecks/2022/feb/28
Today the price for crude oil reached $102 per barrel. A simple multiplication shows that we send to Putin $86, 496,000 every day for his oil. President Biden recently authorized $350 million for military aid to Ukraine. That constitutes just 3 days of oil payments that Biden sends to Putin. We are sending $31,571,040,000 every year to Putin to feed his military machine. We are subsidizing slaughter of innocent women and children in Ukraine.
According to Senator Lindsey Graham, 75 US senators now support the bipartisan bill introduced by senator Marshall to ban Russian oil imports. Members of the House of Representatives are introducing a companion bill in the House. I urge you to support this bill.
I respectfully urge you to join this effort and support the bill banning Russian oil imports until Russia withdraws its troops from Ukraine
