    Jewish American Charlie White and partner Meryl Davis skated into the history books at the Sochi Winter Olympics on Monday when they won the ice dance gold for the U.S., but thick fog in the mountains forced organizers to postpone two events and warn of more delays to come.

    Davis and White became the first Americans to win the Olympic ice dance title with a spellbinding performance to the music of Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Scheherazade.”

    “We’re so excited we’re kind of in shock a little. I’m not sure what we’re feeling,” a beaming Davis told reporters after improving on their silver medal finish from four years ago.

    White added: “To come away with a gold medal is amazing … And 17 years of hard work was justified.”

    PS Another Jewish ice skater, 15 year old  Yulia Lipnitski,  is currently leading women’s competition. Her long program is “Shindler’s List” rendition and it was choreographed by the Ice Dancing Olympic champion Ilya Averbuch.

    Such proud moments for the USA!

    Meanwhile, on this side of the pond, Upstaters in NYS are itching to create their own state and leave the Metropolitan area with Comrade De Blasio to its own devices:

    I can remember back when our Winter Olympic teams were hard pressed to win any medals. Our Winter Olympic Committees have done a superb job with our winter athletes. Vancouver was an anomaly and they set the bar awfully high four years ago. Historically our teams don’t fare as well over in Europe but even despite some disappointments they’re right up there. Team USA has made their country proud.

    It’s not so amazing that the two largest, most populated countries have many wins.
    What is amazing is that one of the smallest, last populated countries have almost as many!

    Either way, it’s wonderful to see such positive and energetic and healthy people all wanting to show their very best!!!

    Holland and Norway are northern countries with a long tradition of winter sports. Their successes are not surprising
