It looks like we found one discrepancy for Harry Bounel, whose CT SSN 042-68-4425 Obama has stolen, it was 1915 Daly Ave, not 915. If you are in NY, can you visit this area and see if you can find any old timers, who might remember Harry Bounel, he worked in the fruit store of Sam Cohen. See if there is a synagogue (Jewish Temple), Jewish cemetery nearby, see if you can find any info. Harry Bounel came from Russia, but from what I know, he was a Jewish man from Russia

There is no 1 or L or anything in front of Daly Ave. in the 1940 census page. Daly was spelled with a large capital D with the top of the D left open or the full D was not enclosed at the top. This can be seen by studying pages 22, 23 and 24 of the same census. Also, the enumerator did not write the whole address down, it should have been 1915 Daly Ave. (now an empty lot). The 1940 census map shows the Bronx having only this Daly Ave. with no address as low as 915. The enumerator also made this mistake with the next building visited around the corner and listed the address as 915 Elsmere Place instead of coincedentaly 1915 Elsmere Place (also an empty lot). The building address range 1933-1939 Daly Ave. which was visited before 1915 Daly still exists as do some buildings in the 1900 block of Crotona Parkway also visited at this time. |
Here is a picture of the building next door

This part of the Bronx underwent many changes since the 1940s. Putting the Cross-Bronx Expressway through it drove out most of the residents and turned it into a slum. The area has improved since its worst days, but there is no trace of the old Jewish community and it’s not the kind of place where “old timers” on the streets are likely to chat with inquisitive strangers.

An empty lot?!! I bet that’s where the bodies are buried. Can you get a search warrant, Orly? I bet this will turn out to be John Wayne Gacy on steroids.

there is St. Thomas Aquinas school nearby. Maybe they had some info on that address and poor immigrants who lived there

The staff at St. Thomas Aquinas would be much too young to remember.

Maybe the best way is to find out if he has any relations left here. Ancestry, birth records etc.

Dr. Taitz – sorry for the double post -I was having ‘a time’ posting – and then I wasn’t able to get in to your site for a long time. Don’t know whether it was ‘down’ for maintenance – – and/or ???? – I pulled up another site that literally shows pictures of the houses that are located near the 1915 address – – it appears that 1915 is a small empty lot – – here’s the website – https://www.trulia.com/homes/New_York/Bronx/sold/20083258-1920-Daly-Ave-Bronx-NY-10460 – – one of the previous sites I pulled indicated the amount of ‘units/people’ per address – IE-1912 – 4 Units
1918 – 20 People
December 30th, 2013 @ 11:23 am
– – or perhaps 1915 and 1919 are ‘combined’ empty lots – – (after looking at the map again)

After further review, I believe my previous comment should be amended as a building on Elsmere Place had a number of 1926 which led me to believe the building visited in the 1940 census around the corner on Elsmere Place had a 1 left off the address 915 Elsmere Place. It turns out this 1926 number references Crotona Parkway. 915 Elsmere Place was the actual address on Elsmere Place and now a vacant lot. St. Thomas Aquinas School is located at 1909 Daly Avenue if in fact the lot which is now a school lot was 1915 Daly and the enumerator had not marked the proper street number and street name. On the corner of Elsmere Place is a building with address of 922 Elsmere Place with this building old enough to exist in 1940 as well as the apartment building shown at 1933-35 Daly Ave.
The enumerator on page 22 of the 1940 census visited 1939 Daly Ave (today shown as 1937-1939 Daly). Then on page 23 and 24 the enumerator visited first 1933 Daly Ave (today shown as 1933-1935) and then 915 Daily Ave (household numbers 287-298). Then on page 25 the enumerator visited 915 Elsmere Place (household numbers 300-309) and then on page 26 again visited 915 Daily Ave (household numbers 310-319). The household numbers associated with address number 915 are sequential which leads me to almost certainty that the enumerator wrote the wrong street name on the census page for address number 915. In other words 915 was associated with an apartment building at 915 Elsmere and not Daly Ave. Harry Bounel likely lived at 315 Elsmere Place. The reason for this is that the enumerator then went to the next nearest building located 1932 Crotona Parkway and then to the building located 1956 Crotona Parkway. All of these buildings are in the same block. St. Thomas Aquinas School at 1909 Daly Ave and the 922 Elsmere Place building are located in the next block south and were not visited within the pages 22-32 of the 1940 census.
So why would the enumerator go to 915 Daly, then 915 Elsmere Place and then back to 915 Daly when all three pages in the census is likely the same location 915 Elsmere Place since the household numbers (not apt. #’s) are sequential. I have e-mailed you pictures of the buildings visited in order with aerial of same.
